Your Body Is HIS Temple

One of my biggest goals this year is to glorify God in all areas of my life. I want to honor God with my heart, my actions, and even my body. To do that, I recently went down the checklist of everything God has been asking me to do this month. One of the things God wants me to work on is honoring and glorifying him with my body. Yep, my body. In 1 Corinthians 6:19 of the bible, it states, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So, glorify God in your body.”

This scripture truly strikes something in me because it lets me know that the body is not just MY temple, but also the temple of the Holy Spirit of God. Imagine, we are the vessels that God chose to house his holy spirit, and most of us struggle to take care of that house. It is an honor to be a vessel for God to use for good, but are we doing a good thing to honor our vessel? I have gone through many phases of health, and many different sizes in clothes. One thing I realize now, is that size, shape, trends, and diets do not matter. What matters most is that I am a healthy woman so that the spirit of God can operate through me and use me as a vessel to impact this world.

Somedays I am an entrepreneur, a mother, a friend, and a mentor all in one. On other days I am just trying my best to keep up with my son and stay well. Overall, every day that I am alive, I crave the presence of the lord and want to honor him with my temple. I want to be well as a symbol of my love for God’s goodness. So, below I have listed 4 ways we can all practice honoring God with our Temple through wellness.

How do we honor God with our temple?

  1. Take care of your health: Our good health is what keeps us alive and well to be a vessel for God to use us in the kingdom.
  2. Eat & Drink Healthy Foods & Beverages: There are so many Christians that love God but do not know that it is an act of deep love to fuel our body with nutritious foods. Part of honoring god is eating food that helps you be well versus hindering your wellness.
  3. Get Sleep & Rest: Although we live in a fast-paced society that prioritizes doing things quickly, we must remember that God is timeless and infinite. He is a God that can slow things down or speed them up. We must learn to allow God to take us through seasons of rest, and we must prioritize sleep. Rest gives us the strength to push through tough trials, work on our kingdom assignments, and pour into those we love.
  4. Move Your Body: One way to honor God with our body, which many of us avoid, is exercise and movement. With movement we can experience the fullness of life, and what it means to have the Holy Spirit truly move “in us”. When we move our body, we show God that we are willing to take care of it, build it, maintain it, and steward it. Moving your temple is an invitation to release the stress that isn’t necessary and to build discipline that can help you in your walk of obedience with Christ.

Scripture Reference:

In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (ESV), he asks, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”

Prayer for the Temple:

Dear God,

Forgive me for the times I neglected my body and chose to avoid the responsibility of taking care of it. Some days I prioritize other things instead of my health and well-being but that is something I want to change to honor you. Lord give me the opportunity to correct these areas in my life and do what is needed to live a full and prosperous life. Help me to learn the discipline to eat well, move my body, and steward my temple where you house the Holy Spirit. Give me the tools and information I need to be successful and connect me with people who also desire to honor you as well. Give me the patience to slow down and rest when I need rest, and the energy to move when you say move. Help me to be at peace with myself, and to love the body you gave me while using it to honor you with wellness and obedience. Amen!

Hi Shayla. I am happy you found this post useful. I am also a person who needs to get more sleep and rest, especially as a mom. Every day is a new opportunity to get up start new habits. We can do it with His help. God bless you!
